County collects recyclables this summer

A Clean Sweep hazardous waste collection is the first recycling event scheduled during spring and summer. It runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the county highway shop, 666 E. Hwy. 12, Hudson. County residents only (must have identification) can drop off most household hazardous waste free of charge.

County residents only (must have identification) can drop off most household hazardous waste free of charge.

Acceptable items include corrosive materials, non-empty aerosol cans and button batteries. In addition, fluorescent lamps 4' and under, 40 cents each; 5’ and over, 60 cents; HID lamps, $2.20 each; car and truck oil filters, 50 cents; and tractor oil filters, $1 each.

Unacceptable items include latex paint, waste oil, auto batteries, electronics, explosives, medical or infectious wastes, radioactive materials and pressurized containers.

A special collection for small businesses and farmers is set up for Friday, May 15. Participants are invited to set up an appointment to bring their materials, but must pre-register by May 12; (715) 386-4675.

Other collections

--Tires and appliances, Saturday, June 6, at three sites, including Krattley Lane site from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; and 277 Townsvalley Road in the town of Troy from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost ranges from 50 cents (bicycle) to $10 (heavy equipment) per tire, depending on the size – car tires are $2. Appliances range from $11 to $16.

--Electronics, Saturday, June 13, at the Government Center, 1101 Carmichael Road, from 9 a.m.-noon. Prices range from $3 to $25.

Collection dates in September are dependent on state funding.
