Prolific children’s author Patricia Polacco surely had no shortage of fans when she came to E.P. Rock Elementary School last Friday.
Everywhere the Michigan author and illustrator went in the school she was likely to see art of all kinds inspired by her books and created especially for her visit by students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
Polacco told stories and read from a few of her books, mostly involving her youth and experiences as a child. She has published 50 books over the past 20 years.
Polacco’s books include stories inspired by history, personal experience and family tales she heard growing up. Throughout the day, she spoke to all the Rock students including those who will be transferring from River Crest to Rock next fall. Every Rock student received a copy of one of Polacco’s books. Third-graders from across the district were also bused to the school to meet and hear Polacco.
“The most amazing thing about Patricia was how much she cared about others. She walked around our school and was so impressed by the art and the respectful students,” said Principal Amy Hamborg.
The event was sponsored with funds from the Rock Parent Group, the school and a grant from the Education Foundation of Hudson.
