We’ll never know what caused a fire that killed three people at an old hotel in downtown Independence in February.
The state fire marshal’s office says the official cause is listed as undetermined.
Two Justice Department investigators said the blaze probably started near an entry door on the main floor of the three-story building, which was vacant for about a year.
Ronald Beck Sr., 60, Humberto Vanegas, 35, and Gerardo Perez, 44, were killed in the blaze.
Investigators said they could not eliminate a number of possible causes, like electricity, careless smoking or other human involvement either intentional or accidental.
