Dear Editor,
Last week’s Star-Observer reported that State Assembly Rep. Kitty Rhoades will be returning 16 days of her pay. This decision is in response to the 16-day-without-pay furloughs that all state employees will have to take in order to bridge the state budget gap.
Of course, state legislators are exempt from this furlough based on state law. I define a true leader as one who leads from the front. Rep. Rhoades is doing just that — leading from the front.
The state’s deficit is the sixth worst in the union. I am very confident we are not the sixth largest economy in the union. Time magazine last week has labeled Wisconsin the worst state in the union for future job growth.
Our state government is controlled by the Democrats in the State Senate, Assembly and the governor’s mansion. With all of this we will have a tsunami of new taxes. Rep. Rhoades could have quietly kept her pay and no one would have said anything.
Real leaders care about the taxpayers of this state and those who are told to sacrifice because of reckless spending. Rep. Rhoades has chosen to side with the distressed and fearful over those who seek to solve the state problems on the taxpayers’ backs.
