Auditions for dance
Auditions for "Dances, Chances, Circumstances – Visceral" are from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in the dance studio. Dancers age 15 and older are needed for a full-length production featuring area choreographers. Styles include tap, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, modern and ballet. Dancers may audition for any or all styles. Those auditioning should arrive at 9:30 a.m. to register. No preparation is necessary. Dancers should secure their hair back, wear appropriate dance attire and shoes, and warm up on their own. Rehearsals begin June 15 for two or more evenings per week. Performances are Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14 and 15, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. For more information, contact The Phipps at (715) 386-2305 or director Clair Anderson at (763) 442-6221.
Ron Rhode will perform a varied program, including transcriptions, standards from the ’20s to the ’50s, Broadway tunes and opera selections on the Wurlitzer theater pipe organ at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6. Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for all students with a current ID.
Private violin lessons
Private violin lessons for students ages 7-adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.
Private voice lessons
Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.
Ballroom dance parties
Tom Larson will offer a ballroom dance party Saturday, June 20 and July 18, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the dance studio. Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments are provided. Admission is $10 per person.
Summer dance technique classes
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 16-July 2, Barb Zak will offer teen and adult tap classes, levels 2 and 3, from 5 to 5:45 p.m. for a fee of $50, teen and adult jazz – leaps and turns, levels 2 and 3, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. for a fee of $66, and teen and adult lyrical, levels 3 and 4, from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. for a fee of $82. A one-week ballet session for intermediate and advanced students age 12 and older will be offered by Marcia Keegan on Monday–Friday, July 27-31, 4:30–7:30 p.m. each day, for a fee of $125. Students will take part in a variety of classes including ballet, pointe, strengthening and repertoire. Previous pointe experience is highly recommended. If a student does not have pointe experience, soft shoes will be worn for exercises. The week will culminate with a studio demonstration/performance.
Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30–8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m. Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
Tai chi continues
Tai chi classes will continue Thursdays, June 18-Aug. 6, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee for eight sessions is $96.
Summer theater camps
--Drama Camp for students entering grades 3 and 4, Monday-Friday, June 15-19 and again July 20-24, from 9 a.m. to noon each day; $135.
--Acting Ensemble for students entering grades 5 and 6, Monday-Friday, June 15-19 and again July 20-24, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day; $135.
--Musical Theater Camp for students entering grades 7-10, Monday-Friday, July 13-17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day; $265.
Summer Art Camp
Enrollment is now open for Summer Art Camp classes in pottery, drawing, painting, sculpture, mosaic, puppetry and more for ages 4 through 18, weekly June 22-Aug. 14. Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital
Currently on display are the works of Priscilla Brigga, Alisha Duckett, Judy Fawcett, John Finkler, Tre’ Hagg, Christina Hankins, Anna Johannsen, Mary Pat Opatz Herges, Jay Jensen, Layl McDill, Joonja Lee Mornes, Mary Kay Newman, Dean Rehpohl, Michael Sweere and Ellen Wold.
A new series of exhibitions featuring work by area artists Fred Annes, Bradley Royce and Jeanne McGee, all of Minneapolis, Chuck Avery of Plymouth, Minn., and Peggy Lauritsen, Stillwater, Minn., will be on view through June 7 in The Galleries. Also on view in the Atrium Gallery is a display featuring the Somerset Bench Project, a community art project involving 38 special education elementary and high school students from the Somerset School District as well as dozens of community volunteers and local businesses. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
