Booster Days is the main fundraiser of the year for the Hudson Boosters, a volunteer organization that provides baseball, softball and football programs for the youth of the community.

This summer, 54 boys baseball teams and 22 girls softball teams are participating in recreational leagues, according to Bill Junco, the Boosters’ baseball/softball commissioner.

Another 13 traveling boys baseball teams and five traveling girls softball teams compete against teams in other communities.

In all, close to 1,200 youth are members of nearly 100 Booster baseball and softball teams.

The proceeds from Booster Days help reduce fees that parents have to pay for their children to join a team.

The organization also is raising money to develop additional ball fields.

“We have tons of support from our school district, local townships and the city itself, but field space is really a crunch,” said Junco, a lay pastor at Faith Community Church.

“Manipulating that is by far our biggest issue. That’s something that we’re really going to be looking at in the very near future. (We’ll be) determining what our immediate needs are, and also trying to put some long-term goals in place.”
