Kathleen Ruth Nord, 72, of the town of Martell died peacefully Saturday, June 20, 2009, at United Hospital in St. Paul following an illness with cancer. Kathleen was born on March 14, 1937, in Bayport, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Gardner) Thompson.

Kathleen was born on March 14, 1937, in Bayport, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Gardner) Thompson.
She was raised in Bayport prior to graduating from Stillwater High School. She furthered her education at St. Catherine’s College where she took general business classes. She used her education by working as a secretary for Ringer Telephone Company in Stillwater, Bell Telephone Company and the federal IRS, working with delinquent accounts. Most recently, she worked for the Stillwater School Systems, District 834, at their Central Services.
On May 1, 1970, she was united in marriage to Rodney Nord in Stillwater. Together, they enjoyed living near the Rush River at their country home in New Centerville. She enjoyed gardening, especially their annual canna lilies and raising her silky terrier dogs. She was a fantastic cook and baker, while sewing and crocheting brought her pleasure as well.
She is survived by her husband, Rodney; son, Patrick; step-son, Rein Darin Gillstrom and his children, Abigail Marie and Lillian Michelle; three brothers and three sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
A Celebration of her life is at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson with Fr. William Murphy of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Bayport.
Visitation was Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at O’Connell’s on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred.
