Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter in response to all the bad letters and negative comments that have been made about the Scouts’ bad performance raising the flag and everyone’s opinion on how they could have fixed it.
I am a military veteran and truly appreciate the effort and dedication that these young men gave on that day to honor the men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Isn’t it time we appreciate the little things that young people do to respect their elders rather than ridicule the ones that are trying to teach them simple tasks?
I applaud these young men’s efforts to do the task they were asked to do and not ask for help. Is that not what a future leader or soldier is asked of him or herself?
Please leave the kids alone and accept the fact that they did the best they could. Also, I would like to thank the Scout leaders for letting the cards fall where they may. Stand proud! I know my drill instructor did even when I stumbled.
Shame on those of you that have made these fine young men feel that they have failed! What kind of example are you setting for future Scouts?
