Wausau native Chris Wimmer beat out top NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth of Cambridge to win the All-Star Challenge last night at Madison International Speedway.
Wimmer, a short-track veteran who occasionally runs on the NASCAR truck circuit, got inside Kenseth on the 90th lap to take the lead for good.
The fourth annual race covered 100 laps on the half-mile oval at Oregon. NASCAR Sprint Cup points’ leader Tony Stewart placed fifth.
Kenseth started on the pole as he went for his fourth victory in eight races at Madison International since 2003.
