Waterfowl group organizes; Gopher to Badger Half Marathon and 5K set for August 8; Mike Yurk to sign books Saturday

Waterfowl group organizes locally

The St. Croix Valley chapter of the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association is forming in the area. The non-profit organization focuses on conservation, protection of traditions, waterfowl habitat restoration, legislation and youth education programs. The local chapter generally meets at 6 p.m. every Wednesday at the Willow River Inn in Burkhardt, and interested people are always welcome. Organizers are currently planning a Sept. 17 all-seasons get-together in Hudson – more information will follow.

A 2010 calendar raffle is under way for $20. Participants get a calendar and a chance to win other prizes throughout 2010: 52 guns, 156 cash prizes of $25, 52 Wild Wings items and 105 WWM merchandise items. For more information, or for raffle tickets, contact David Gorka at (651) 775-2463 or gandktruckingLLC@sbcglobal.net; or Tony Stanek, (651) 336-3925. More information is available at www.wisducks.org.

Race set in Valley Aug. 8

The Gopher to Badger Half Marathon and 5K has a new Platinum Sponsor this year, Mike Leverty’s Hudson Office of the Bohannon Group of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. The race is set for Saturday Aug. 8. The race starts in Stillwater and ends at Lakefront Park, but participants may park in Hudson and ride buses to the start point.

Registration is available at http://www.bohannongroupfoundation.org. The cost is $35 for the half-marathon and $25 for the 5K (prices increase $5 after Aug. 4.). Leverty said $5 of every runner registration fee goes towards the Bohannon Group Foundation, which contributes to Children’s Cancer Research Fund. There are still opportunities for booth sponsorships at the Lake Front Park Finish Line. There will be food, live music and an expected 1,500 runners in the park that day. For more information call (651) 500-5678 or email Info@BohannonGroupFoundation.org.
