Annual Members Exhibition
The Annual Members Art Exhibition will be on view July 31-Sept. 4 in The Galleries. Deadline to enter the show is Friday, July 17. All current and recently lapsed members of The Phipps should have received an entry form in the mail. If you are not a member but want to show your work in this non-juried show, include a membership donation with your entry form. Entry forms can be found at www.ThePhipps.org/artist_opportunities.htm, by visiting The Phipps or by sending a self-addressed and stamped envelope to The Phipps, Attn: Members Art Exhibition, 109 Locust St., Hudson WI 54016. Members are encouraged to display one piece of original work which they created in any media. The show will be judged by St. Paul-based oil painter Dan Mackerman. He will also be at the opening reception Friday, July 31, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., to discuss his choices. A Viewer’s Choice ribbon will also be awarded at the conclusion of the exhibition.
Private violin lessons
Private violin lessons for students ages 7-adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.
Private voice lessons
Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.
Ballroom dance parties
Tom Larson will offer a ballroom dance party Saturday, July 18, and Aug. 15, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the dance studio. Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments are provided. Admission is $10 per person.
Ballet intensive
A one-week ballet session for intermediate and advanced students age 12 and older will be offered by Marcia Keegan on Monday–Friday, July 27-31, 4:30–7:30 p.m. each day, for a fee of $125. Students will take part in a variety of classes including ballet, pointe, strengthening and repertoire. Previous pointe experience is highly recommended. If a student does not have pointe experience, soft shoes will be worn for exercises. The week will culminate with a studio demonstration/performance.
Summer theater camps
--Drama Camp for students entering grades 3 and 4, Monday-Friday, July 20-24, 9 a.m. to noon each day; $135.
--Acting Ensemble for students entering grades 5 and 6, Monday-Friday, July 20-24, 1 to 4 p.m. each day; $135.
Summer Art Camp
Enrollment is now open for Summer Art Camp classes in pottery, drawing, painting, sculpture, mosaic, puppetry and more for ages 4 through 18, weekly through Aug. 14. Class fees range from $25 (for a one-day, two-hour class) to $239 (for a five-day, seven-hour class).
Preserving food
Three classes on preserving peaches and tomatoes are offered Aug. 6 and 29 as part of an ongoing series, The Art of Thoughtful Living. Some supplies will be available for purchase.
--“From Field to Fork: Peach Preservation,” 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, with Geralyn Karl. Participants will assist in the preparation of peach preserves, jam, salsa and pickles.
--“Canning Tomatoes,” from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29; hands-on workshop of instruction on canning tomatoes. Participants will receive illustrated instructions as well as ideas and recipes.
--“Canning Salsa,” from noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Khaiti Kahleck will walk participants through all the steps of making salsa to can at home with instructions and recipes.

Yoga classes
Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30–8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m.
Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
Photography club
The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings. For more information, contact Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048.
Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital
Currently on display are the works of Priscilla Brigga, Alisha Duckett, Judy Fawcett, John Finkler, Tre’ Hagg, Christina Hankins, Anna Johannsen, Mary Pat Opatz Herges, Jay Jensen, Layl McDill, Joonja Lee Mornes, Mary Kay Newman, Dean Rehpohl, Michael Sweere and Ellen Wold.
Gallery exhibit
A series of exhibitions featuring work by area artists Morgan Clifford (Stillwater), De Paola de Lerma (Minneapolis), Leslie Anderson (St. Paul), Beth Peck (Menomonie) and Mark Aumann (Eau Claire) is on view through July 26 in The Galleries of The Phipps Center for the Arts.
Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
The Gift Gallery
The Gift Gallery offers unique fine art and traditional crafts by noted area artists. Gift certificates are also available. Gift Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m.; as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
