Tix for Tots – a charitable organization that collects tickets to sporting and cultural events and gives them to underprivileged children – will hold its annual Minnesota Twins fundraising outing on Sunday, Aug. 16.

The Twins will move into their new stadium next year, so the Tix for Tots event provides an opportunity to say good-bye to the dome.

Tickets are still available for the Metrodome event beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a picnic at the Dome Pavilion.

The pre-game festivities include entertainment from Kids Dance, a silent auction, presentation of a Child Advocate of the Year Award, an appearance by Twins mascot T.C. Bear and a pre-game parade on the Metrodome field.

Advance tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 2-14. Visit www.tixfortots.org/event for more details and to register for the event.

Tix for Tots was founded eight years ago by Robb and Laura Neuenschwander of rural Hudson.

An avid Minnesota Gophers basketball fan, Robb was frustrated seeing some many empty season-ticket seats around him.

“I had an epiphany,” he would say later about his decision to set up a nonprofit organization to collect unused tickets and give them to underprivileged children.

Since then, the organization has provided more than 272,000 opportunities for children to discover the thrills and magic of sporting and cultural events in the Twin Cities.

In 2009, Tix for Tots has provided an average of 100 tickets per day to kids in need.

Sunday’s event is a fundraiser for the organization. The public is invited to participate in it.
