United Way St. Croix Valley will kick off its 2009 fall fund-raising campaign with its second annual Day of Caring volunteer event Friday, Sept. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Individuals and teams of volunteers from local companies will meet at rally points and proceed to nonprofit agencies and homes of seniors throughout Pierce and St. Croix counties to do small service projects such as raking leaves, washing first-floor windows and painting.
"I really like United Way's motto, ‘Live United,’ because it speaks to the power of community," United Way Executive Director John Coughlin said. "Every one of us can do something to make life better for our families and our neighbors. We can give to local charities, we can advocate for causes that we believe in, and we can volunteer our time to help others."
This year, United Way St. Croix Valley's campaign runs Sept. 14-Nov. 20.
The annual campaign will fund United Way initiatives and more than 60 local agency programs.
Seniors in St. Croix and Pierce counties who would like volunteers to help at their home during the Day of Caring, or individuals who would like to volunteer their time to help others, should call the United Way at (715) 377-0203, ext. 105, or visit its Web site at www.unitedwaystcroix.org.
