Private violin lessons

Private violin lessons for students ages 7-adult are offered throughout the year by Sarah Bertsch, (715) 381-5735.

Private voice lessons

Elizabeth Hawksford Schaefer offers private voice lessons for ages 12-adult. Adults and homeschooled teenagers are especially welcome to call for available daytime openings. For more information, call The Phipps center at (715) 386-2305, ext. 101.

Ballroom dance parties

Tom Larson will offer a ballroom dance party Saturday, Sept. 19 and Oct. 17, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the dance studio. Larson will offer a ballroom dance lesson from 7 to 8. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. Refreshments are provided. Admission is $12 per person.

Preserving food

Classes on preserving peaches and tomatoes are offered Aug. 29 as part of The Art of Thoughtful Living series. Some supplies will be available for purchase.

--“Canning Tomatoes,” from 10-11:30 a.m.; hands-on workshop of instruction on canning tomatoes. Participants will receive illustrated instructions as well as ideas and recipes.

--“Canning Salsa,” from noon-1:30 p.m. Khaiti Kahleck will walk participants through all the steps of making salsa to can at home with instructions and recipes.

Visual arts classes

Several classes and workshops are offered for teens and adults this fall.

--A two-day watercolor workshop with visiting artist Jan Foss that focuses on painting California Poppies will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The fee is $99. Participants should request a materials list upon enrollment.

--The first six-week session of Quick Start to Watercolor for adults runs Tuesday, Sept. 22-Oct. 27, 9 a.m.-noon, for $185 (does not include materials). Participants should request a materials list upon enrollment.

--Creative Cards for adults is offered Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., for $75, including most materials. Students are asked to bring watercolor paints, brushes and one-half sheet (15” x 22”) of #140 cold press watercolor paper.

--Eight-week pottery classes for teens and adults begin the week of Sept. 28 for $207: 1) Beginning Pottery on the Wheel is Mondays, Sept. 28-Nov. 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m. 2) Clay Sculpture is Tuesdays, Sept. 29-Nov. 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m. 3) Beginning and Intermediate Pottery on the Wheel is Wednesdays, Sept. 30-Nov. 18, 10 a.m.-noon. Students enrolled in pottery classes have access to the pottery studio Fridays, 5:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon.

--A 10-week drawing class and a 10-week sculpture class with returning instructor Gary O’Connor are Wednesdays, Sept. 30-Dec. 9. The drawing class is from 9 a.m. to noon, and the sculpture class is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Yoga classes

Vinyasa Flow yoga classes continue Thursdays, 6:30–8 p.m. Beginning yoga is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m.

Classes are ongoing and may be taken at any time. Punch-cards may be purchased for $120 per 10 classes. Punch-cards are good for any of the three classes offered each week. Students only pay for the classes they attend. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

Photography club

The Western Wisconsin Photographic Club meets regularly at The Phipps. Photographers of all levels of ability and experience are invited to these meetings. For more information, contact Margaret Strehlo, (715) 386-5048.

Healing Arts at Hudson Hospital

Currently on display are the works of Judy Dannholz, Lindsy Halleckson, Margaret Holmes, Peter Landherr, Michael McGraw, David Mngodo, Joonja Lee Mornes, Odessa, Selene Plum, Teri Power, Jodi Reeb-Myers and Victoria Demos Stevens.

Gallery exhibit

The Annual Members’ Art Exhibition is on view through Sept. 4. Galleries hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m., as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.

The Gift Gallery

The Gift Gallery offers unique fine art and traditional crafts by noted area artists. Gift certificates are also available. Gift Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m.; as well as one hour before and through intermission of all performances in The Phipps theaters.
