Sheriff Dennis Hillstead warns St. Croix County residents to take precaution against theft of personal items from their cars.
“In recent weeks, the sheriff’s office and other law enforcement agencies have taken complaints of car break-ins throughout the county,” Hillstead said.
Many of the break-ins have occurred during the evening or at night while cars were parked in the owner’s driveway or the street nearby. Money, compact discs and other personal belongings have been taken during the incidents, the sheriff said.
On occasion the vehicle owners have left keys inside the car or in the ignition. The sheriff strongly urges residents to lock their vehicles and, if possible, not leave personal or valuable belongings inside.
Witnesses to a suspicious event and/or victims of crimes should contact a local law enforcement agency or the St. Croix County Sheriff’s office at (715) 381-4329 or dial 911.
