Close to 140 volunteers supplied the labor for a “Day of Caring” sponsored by United Way St. Croix Valley on Friday, Sept. 18.

Many of the volunteers were provided by Hudson-area businesses. After a lunch and rally at the United Way’s Food Resource Center, the volunteers spent the afternoon assisting senior citizens and local agencies doing projects such as painting, cleaning, weeding and washing windows.

The Day of Caring was the kickoff for the United Way’s 2009 fundraising campaign.

In the past year, the United Way awarded $624,326 in grants to more than 70 non-profit programs. An additional $197,469 went to specific agencies designated by the donors.
