Overcast skies, below-average temperatures and rain showers dampened the turnout for the first Hudson Oktoberfest to benefit St. Croix EMS & Rescue and the Big Ring Flyers Bicycle Club.
The event, held Friday and Saturday in Lakefront Park, featured a German-style brat stand and beer garden along with music provided by the Mississippi Valley Dutchmen.
The event was the first of what organizers hope to make an annual event. St. Croix EMS & Rescue provides 911 emergency medical services to the greater Hudson area. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase and replace equipment used by the EMS.
Oktoberfest was held in conjunction with the fifth annual Hudson Riverfront Cycle Cross Race on Saturday. Event organizer Dag Selander said that a record number of 153 cyclists participated in three adult categories that included Lakefront Park as well as the beach and wooded area north of the park.
There was also a half-mile kids race.
Winner of the 60-minute Elite Class Race was Adam Bergman of Minneapolis. Winner of the 45-minute race was Paul McKinney of Minneapolis. The 30-minute race was won by Chris Ames, also of Minneapolis.
