James Charles Murphy, age 78, of Hudson, and formerly of South St. Paul, Minn., died on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

He was born the son of Louis and Amy (Anhorn) Murphy on May 16, 1931, in LaCrosse, Wis. He graduated from South St. Paul High School, went on to earn a degree from Globe Business College, and then worked as a beef selector for Armour's in South St. Paul.

On Jan. 12, 1951, James was united in marriage to Margaret Jean Lym. They would be blessed with four children: Kathy, David, Mary and John.

In 1993, he retired in Stevens Point, Wis., after many years as a warehouse manager for Copps Company.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping in his RV and avidly cheered on the MN Vikings football team.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; children, Kathy Murphy of Savage, Minn., David Murphy (Marge Olberg) of Eden Prairie, Minn., Mary Murphy of Savage, Minn., John (Andy) Murphy of New Hope, Minn.; sister, Darlene Molloy of El Paso, Texas; brother-in-law, Jim (Joan) Lym of Shoreview, Minn.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lym of South St. Paul; his "best girl" and canine companion, Molly; and extended family.

Mass of Christian Burial for James at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Chapel, 1500 Vine St., Hudson. Visitation will be for one hour prior to Mass.
