The Hudson City Council on Oct. 19 voted to ban parking on portions of some streets during the winter plowing season.

The affected streets are:

  • Commercial, from Second to the Public Safety Building lot;

  • Elm, on the south side from First to Third;

  • Sixth, from St. Croix to Myrtle;

  • Vine, on the north side from First to Second;

  • 10th, from Vine to Cole; and

  • Namekagon, from O’Keefe to the corner.

    The restriction will be in place from Nov. 15 to March 15.

    Public Works and Parks Director Tom Zeuli said snowplows have a difficult time maneuvering in those areas with cars parked on both sides of the street. The congestion was likely to lead to property damage, he added.

    Council President Lori Bernard, chair of the Public Works Committee, noted that the number of streets first recommended for parking restrictions had been pared down considerably.

    Alderperson Lee Wyland asked why the restrictions couldn’t be limited to snow emergencies.

    “It seems like we’re using a hammer to solve a relatively small problem,” he said.
