Hudson Judge C.A. Richards has been awarded the Wisconsin Judicare Howard B. Eisenberg Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at the 7th Annual Eisenberg Dinner Saturday in Milwaukee.
The award honors the memory of Attorney Howard Eisenberg, “who exemplified the best in the legal profession by consistently maintaining an active and prodigious pro bono law practice.”
Wisconsin Judicare has benefited tremendously from the guidance and dedication of Judge C.A. Richards, who has been the board chair since 2003. Judge Richards has been involved with Wisconsin Judicare since its inception in 1966 through his involvement in the State Bar Legal Aid Committee that oversaw the first Judicare grant. Since then, Judge Richard’s devotion to legal assistance for the low income has been a constant in his career.
Judge Richards has selflessly given his time to advocate for the Wisconsin Judicare program throughout eras of decreased funding and attacks on legal service programs. In addition, Judge Richards has ensured access to justice for many other northern Wisconsin residents through his work on the 9th Judicial District Self Help Committee, which led the state in providing assistance to pro se family law litigants by creating the first uniform online divorce forms.
Judge Richards has also been active locally, volunteering with youth sports, Rotary, Elks, Red Cross and being on the board of the Hudson Hospital Foundation, YMCA and the Northwest Wisconsin Board of the American Heart Association.
