During a special meeting of the electors Tuesday, Nov. 10, citizens of the town of Hudson voted in favor of allowing the town to exceed its current price cap of $5,000 per mile for road construction and repair. This was also ratified later in the evening when the town board reconvened.

Budget

With revenues down 9.5 percent from 2009, the town of Hudson presented the 2010 budget in a short public hearing. A brief summary of some of the proposed revenues and expenditures are as follows:

Proposed Revenues:

  • Tax Levy, $823,318

  • Licenses and Permits, $64,000

  • Fines, Forfeitures, and Penalties, $2,500

  • Transfer from general fund to balance, $551,993

  • Total 2010 proposed revenue, $2,044,660

    Proposed Expenditures:

  • Government, $310,750

  • Public Safety, $398,113

  • Public Works, $1,087,000

  • Culture, Recreation, and Education, $223,851

  • Total 2010 proposed expenditures, $2,044,660

While this is just a proposed budget, in the past two years the town has actually come in well under the proposed expenditure limit. In 2008, expenditures were proposed at $1.97 million, but came in at $1.61 million, and in 2009 (through Oct. 29) the town is currently on track to do the same, with a 2009 expenditure estimate of $2.28 million, the town has only spent $1.37 million.

There was little discussion among the public during the hearing, and little among the board later in the evening during the board meeting. At the end of the night, along with the increase in road funding, the board passed the 2010 tax levy and the 2010 budget. A full copy of the budget, including all line-items can be obtained at the town hall.
