Dear Editor,

Two weeks ago there was an editorial in the Hudson Star Observer that pointed out lawsuits against the Sheriff’s Department. I’m not saying mistakes weren’t made — they were.

But, it’s important to recognize what law enforcement means to our very lives. They are the thin blue line between us and complete anarchy. These men and women put their lives on the line for us each and every day.

The terrible tragedy in Seattle - four police officers (nine children between them) were executed as they sat and filed incident reports — underlines just how quickly their lives can be snuffed out.

I’ve had the opportunity to observe the men and women in the Sheriff’s Department, and they are dedicated to protecting not only the inmates, but the persons who come and go within the Department.
