A Stillwater, Minn., tire business that had its first plan to expand to Hudson denied by the city in 2007 is back with another proposal.
This plan by Tire Proz, to build a new store and service shop at the corner of Crest View Drive and Industrial Street, appears more likely to get the city’s endorsement.
Last Thursday, the Hudson Plan Commission recommended approval of a certificate of compliance and concept development plans for the business.
Dustin Rassback of Derrick Commercial Contracting presented the plans for the new 6,000-square-foot automotive service center with service bays facing Industrial Street.
He said the existing commercial building on the property – most recently home to Hudson Floor Design and K.J.’s Photo – will be razed to make way for the new building.
A pole shed where fireworks were sold will also be taken down.
Plan Commission members indicated they saw no reason to deny Tire Proz from locating on the property.
Mayor Dean Knudson, chair of Plan Commission, said he used to have his veterinary clinic on the site, and before that, there was a gas station on the property.
The zoning certificate of compliance is needed to locate an automobile service center in a general business district.
The City Council has the final authority to approve or deny Tire Proz’s application to locate on the property.
The City Council turned down its earlier request to remodel and add on to the vacant Perkins Restaurant building on Crest View at Dominion Drive.
Residential and business neighbors of that property were opposed to the plan.
Knudson indicated that the lack of hotels and residential apartments nearby bodes well for Tire Proz’s latest plan.
