After a cold-shooting first quarter, the Stillwater Ponies heated up from the outside and went on to hand the Hudson boys’ basketball team a 79-53 setback last Tuesday in Hudson.
The Raiders, now 1-4 overall, are playing in the Chippewa Falls Invitational Tuesday and Wednesday (Dec. 29 and 30). They return home to host Red Wing, Minn., Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Hudson, 1-2 in the Big Rivers Conference, resumes BRC action Friday, Jan. 8, at home against Rice Lake (4-3 overall, 0-2 BRC).
Last Tuesday against Stillwater, Minn., the Ponies led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Raiders 23-14 in the second quarter to open up a 33-19 lead.
Seven of Stillwater’s 22 field goals in the game were from beyond the three-point line.
Davy Branson led the Raiders with 19 points, including two of the Raiders three three-pointers, while Eric Schmechel added 11. Matt Krier finished with nine points in the loss while Jordan Vitek had six, Tyler Smrcina four and Ben Duerst and Max Hawksford two each.
