Local skaters volunteer for sled hockey
The Minnesota Sled Hockey Association practiced and scrimmaged at Hudson’s Raider Arena on Dec. 5. The Minnesota Sled Hockey Program is open to players age 5 and above with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
The Minnesota Sled Hockey Association practiced and scrimmaged at Hudson’s Raider Arena on Dec. 5. Girls’ varsity skaters Alex Willi and Brooke Dierks, boys’ varsity skater Ben Johnson and Hudson High School student Emily Gavic volunteered with the group, assisting skaters on the ice and participating in the drills and games.
The association is in its fourth season of competition and provides opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in hockey and promotes the development of excellence in hockey in Minnesota. The Minnesota Sled Hockey Program is open to players age 5 and above with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
The organization will host the 2011 Disabled Hockey Festival at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. April 1-3, 2011. The tournament will play host to more than 60 teams from across the country encompassing all four disciplines of disabled hockey: special, deaf/hard of hearing, standing amputee, and sled.
