The Hudson Middle School has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Kern Family Foundation to implement and expand the district’s Project Lead the Way program, an engineering curriculum that is in its first year at Hudson High School.

There are six units in the middle school program including Design and Modeling which will begin next fall as a sixth grade exploratory class. The other units will be scheduled in the seventh and eighth grades as electives. Those classes include the Magic of Electrons, Science of Technology, Automation and Robotics, Flight and Space and Energy and the Environment.

The funds will be used to provide training to the technical education staff and curriculum materials with $20,000 awarded in 2010 and the balance of $5,000 in 2011.

The district has already been awarded $34,000 from the Kern Foundation to fund the high school program over three years.
