The Hudson Fire Department was called to the WinterGreen Apartments, 1320 Wisconsin St., at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday in response to a reported kitchen stove fire.
In sending the fire department to the three-story apartment building, a St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center dispatcher said the fire apparently was extinguished, but there was smoke in the building and the fire alarms were sounding.
Hudson Fire Chief Jim Frye was heard on the emergency radio saying there was smoke on more than one floor of the building, and that it was the heaviest on the second floor.
He told firefighters that multiple exhaust fans would be needed to ventilate the building. Frye indicated that residents were evacuated from at least part of the building, which is part of the Christian Community Homes campus.
The fire department’s ladder truck and another engine responded to call.
Firefighters cleared from the scene at about 1:15 p.m.
