Daniel Joseph “Danny” Sikorski, age 77, of New Richmond, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Westwinds Hospital.
He was born the son of Stanley and Josephine (Gron) Sikorski on Oct. 20, 1932, in Chicago, Ill. On May 1, 1954, he was united to Marilyn Haila in Chicago at Annunciation Catholic Church. He served with the U.S. Army, stationed stateside during the Korean conflict. Danny worked as the merchandise manager in the Sears clothing warehouse. He retired in 1988 and moved to New Richmond, Wis., to be closer to his family.
Family was always his number one priority; he loved them all greatly and was affectionately known as “Grandpa Chicago.” Danny was proud of his Polish heritage, remained an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and White Sox, and was known for his beautiful wood carvings which were sold all over the St. Croix area. Though he wouldn’t admit it, Danny loved to be the center of attention. His quick, dry wit and teasing will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Sikorski; and sister, Joan Grossi.
Danny will remain in the hearts of his wife of 55 years, Marilyn; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Cheryl Sikorski of Roberts; grandchildren, Erin (Jesse) Bystrom of Roberts, Benjamin (Krista) Sikorski of Roberts, Jonathon (Meredith) Sikorski of St. Paul, and Kelyn Sikorski of Roberts; great-grandson, Ezra Bystrom; brother, Richard (Kathy) Sikorski of Plainfield, Ill.; sister-in-law, Sophie Sikorski of Wheaton, Ill., and brother-in-law, Paul Grossi of Plainfield; nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Danny at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Visitations will be one hour prior to Mass at church and from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, 715-386-3725.
