Area artists and culinary experts are encouraged to get involved in the eighth annual St. Croix Art & Culinary Show, sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Richmond.
This year’s gathering is set for 5-8 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at R&D Banquet Hall in New Richmond.
The event features artists displaying and demonstrating their skills. Local chefs and restaurants also prepare some of their favorite dishes and provide samples to those in attendance.
Various wines and spirits are also available for tasting throughout the evening, including samples for local establishments like Brady’s Brewhouse, 45th Parallel and American Sky.
Special music will be provided for the crowd, and a silent and live auction will be conducted at the end of the evening.
Ticket prices remain at $40 per person. Tickets have been the same price for all eight years of the show’s existence.
“We want to make it affordable, and fun, for everyone,” Art and Culinary Show Chairperson Jo Wrich said.
Tickets will go on sale in early March, she added.
This year’s honorary culinary chairperson is Randy Calleja, owner of Ready Randy’s. Edna Grotjahn Early and Barb Peterson are the artist co-chairpersons.
New this year will be an “Iron Chef” competition, pitting two local chefs against each other. Each participating chef will be given $100 in cooking supplies from Family Fresh, and then will create a dish for a panel of judges to taste test. The judges will determine the evening’s “Iron Chef” winner.
Wrich said the Rotary Club likes to have new artists each year.
“We really look for variety,” she said.
Deadline for filling out an application is Feb. 1. Artists will be notified by Feb. 15 if they have been chosen to be part of the Art & Culinary Show.
Culinary experts are also encouraged to apply. Wrich said many of the participating chefs have been involved previously, but new culinary organizations are always welcome to join in. Deadline for culinary artists to sign up is Feb. 4.
Money raised at the event goes to fund local Rotary Club efforts, including the New Richmond High School STRIVE scholarship program, foreign exchange program and projects such as last year’s Feed My Starving Children food packing event.
According to Wrich, more than $10,000 was raised at the St. Croix Art and Culinary Show last year.
