Softball rides hit parade to win

Hudson pitchers Abby Singerhouse and Courtney Whaley combined on a four-hitter and the Raiders scored runs in every inning but one on their way to an 11-2 season-opening win over New Richmond Friday at Grandview Park.

Hudson pitchers Abby Singerhouse and Courtney Whaley combined on a four-hitter and the Raiders scored runs in every inning but one on their way to an 11-2 season-opening win over New Richmond Friday, April 9 at Grandview Park.

Sydney Berger, Devan DuCharme and Kindra Witthus all had two hits as Hudson outhit the Tigers 15-4 in the game.

Berger was 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI while DuCharme doubled and scored three runs and Witthus doubled and scored twice.

Missy Tennant added a two-run double in the victory while Singerhouse and Whaley helped their own causes with RBI base hits. Shelby Berger also had a hit and an RBI while Betsie Ferguson and Monica Hendricks each had a double.

Singerhouse worked the first four innings on the mound and allowed one run on two hits while striking out six and walking seven. Whaley allowed one run on two hits over the final three innings with one strikeout and no walks.

Hudson snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the second inning to take the lead for good. They added a single run in the fourth and four more in the fifth, highlighted by Sydney Berger’s bases-loaded triple. They tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth on Tennant’s two-run single before New Richmond scored a run in the top of the seventh to make the final 1102.

The Raiders will visit Como Park Thursday, April 15 before hosting Baldwin-Woodville Friday, April 16 at 5 p.m. They visit Prescott Tuesday, April 20 and open Big Rivers Conference play with a doubleheader at Menomonie Thursday, April 22.
