Considering the way Eau Claire Memorial has dominated Big Rivers Conference boys’ tennis, much of the competition has centered around who will finish in second place.

Eau Claire Memorial put itself in a position to win its 14th straight conference title by winning Saturday’s BRC tournament in Eau Claire. The Raiders can lock up second place by beating Chippewa Falls in their final dual Tuesday in Hudson.

The Raiders received second place performances from Max Hawksford, Jimmy Setzer, Jeff Dahl and the doubles team of Andy Mitchell and Alex Lasiuk to finish second at Saturday’s BRC tournament behind the Old Abes.

Eau Claire Memorial was first with 42 points followed by Hudson with 20 and River Falls with 15. Eau Claire North was fourth with 14 while Menomonie was fifth with 13 and Chippewa Falls sixth with 8.

“With the limited varsity experience we had as a group coming into the season, I’m happy with the runner-up finish,” Raider coach Dave Dahl said. “They’ve been good about competing in practice and that makes all the difference.”

See the May 20 print edition for individual results and more commments from Coach Dahl.
