Hudson Middle School science teacher Cindy Landers recenty took 58 Hudson Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade girls to a Women in Science Program at UW-Stout in Menomonie.
Landers said the keynote speaker shared some stories about women scientists in history that had made a difference in their world and how many did not receive credit for their work. She also challenged the girls to make a difference in their world.
According to Landers, in a survey after the event, many girls said they were inspired and realized they could do anything if they put their mind to it. The program also included a panel of Stout science students available to share their story and answer questions.
The students then split up into small groups and attended classes in a wide range of science topics including assistive technology, neuroscience and emotion, Phun with physics, plant propagation, hands-on plastics, rocket science, and how acidic is your pop?
