For the second year in a row, students from the Hudson School District’s Junior Diversity Club spent some of their summer vacation taking swimming lessons and practicing their math, reading and writing skills.
This year the club added several field trips based on weekly themes. Students visited the St. Croix County Fair during “Farm Week,” walked to the Central Bank to learn more about banking, and toured the Hudson Bagel Shop during cooking week.
Several of the group wrote about their experiences of visiting various locations. Among the writers was seventh-grader Kimberly Santiago:
”I went to the St. Croix County Fair. First of all, I had no interest in llamas. But somehow, when I entered the county fair, the llamas were actually the best and my favorite out of all of the farm animals. The llamas were not as dirty or smelly like the cows or the pigs. The best part was that I got a big kiss on my forehead from the llama that I was petting right in front of me. The llama was so soft and the softest part of the llama was the neck. They were very tall. When I first saw the llamas I wondered why their middle part of their stomach had less fur than in their neck and where they had their tail.”
