Tragic pool accident takes the life of Deborah Olson

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department was called to a drowning incident Sunday morning at a residence in the town of Hudson.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department was called to a drowning incident Sunday morning at a residence in the town of Hudson.

Sheriff Dennis Hillstead said Deborah Jean Olson, 59, apparently drowned in the pool at her Kelly Road residence. The first call to dispatch was recorded at 7:41 a.m.

The sheriff’s report said she had been suffering from cancer for eight years and normally slept on a couch downstairs. When her husband, Dr. Melvin K. Olson, woke she wasn’t on the couch. He looked around the grounds and found her floating in the pool.

“He and his son, Eric D. Olson, 26, pulled her out of the pool and applied CPR but couldn’t revive her,” Sheriff Dennis Hillstead said.

When deputies arrived at the house, they noticed a deck chair at the bottom of the pool, the report said.

“We are treating it as a drowning. At this time no foul play is suspected and we don’t know the cause of death,” Hillstead said Monday morning.

Deborah Olson was the second drowning victim in St. Croix County this year, according to records in the sheriff’s office.
