Descendants of Peter Nelson held a family reunion Aug. 7 at Prospect Park. Nelson emigrated from Sweden, arriving in Hudson in 1898. In 1903, his wife Dorthea and other family members, including son Eric, followed from Uppsala, Sweden. Eric, one of six children, married Helen Dupay. Eric and Helen had five children: Donna (Nelson) Erdman, deceased; Dorothy "Dot” (Nelson) Brown, deceased; George "Gus" Nelson, Hudson; Doris "Sissy" (Nelson) Odell, Odessa, Fla.; Robert "Bob" Nelson, deceased. A total of 83 people attended and represented all five of the children of Eric and Helen, traveling from as far as the states of Washington, Georgia, California, Nevada and Ohio. A large number of Nelson descendants still live in the St. Croix Valley. George Nelson, a life-long Hudson resident, headed the committee that organized the event. Above, Alex and Owen Caroon, the fourth set of twins born into the Nelson family since 1901, attended with their sister Jaelinn and parents Salina Erdman and Jason Caroon.
