Fall colors hang on

Long-time Hudson resident Warren Pagel alerted the Hudson Star-Observer staff about a tree he has watched for years. The maple is located near the intersection of First and St. Croix streets.

Long-time Hudson resident Warren Pagel alerted the Hudson Star-Observer staff about a tree he has watched for years. The maple is located near the intersection of First and St. Croix streets. It has provided amazing fall colors to the delight of area residents — some like Pagel drive out of the way just to see the tree.

While this photo does not show it, one of the intriguing things about the tree is that some of the leaves remain bright green, almost until leaf drop, while the rest turn crimson.
