Benjamin Dueholm recalls the Hudson of his childhood

The Dueholms resided near the present Willow River Elementary School from October 1978 to December 1990. Ben, now 31 years old and the associate pastor at Wicker Park Lutheran Church in Chicago, was born at Hudson Hospital in 1979.

The Rev. Benjamin Dueholm, son of one-time Hudson mayor Dave Dueholm,

reminisced about Hudson on his blog following a visit here in September.

The Dueholms resided near the present Willow River Elementary School from October 1978 to December 1990. Ben, now 31 years old and the associate pastor at Wicker Park Lutheran Church in Chicago, was born at Hudson Hospital in 1979.

Dave Dueholm won a recall election against then mayor Tom Redner in December 1989 and served in the office until the following April. He was an opponent of the now-vacant St. Croix Meadows dog track in the days when the issue of whether the track should be allowed in Hudson divided the community. Dueholm didn’t seek re-election after his 120 days in office.

Benjamin was only 11 years old when the Dueholms moved to Madison, but his affection for the city and friends of his childhood has remained.

He is a graduate of Madison Memorial High School, Deep Springs College and the University of Chicago.

His wife, Kerry Waller Dueholm, also is a pastor – with the Disciples denomination at Villa Park Christian Church.

The attachment contains Benjamin Dueholm’s blog entry. The Ben Z. he refers to is Ben Zientara. Zientara is the son of Bob Zientara, a former writer and editor for the Star-Observer.
