The Raider volleyball team went 1-4 at Saturday’s Big Rivers Conference Tournament to finish sixth.
The Raiders’ begin postseason play Thursday night, Oct. 21 when they host Superior at 7 p.m. at the high school. Hudson earned the No. 4 seed while Superior is No. 5. The winner of Thursday’s match will travel to top-seed Eau Claire North for a regional final Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
Last Saturday the Raiders ended play at the BRC Tournament by losing to Superior, 21-25, 19-25 to finish sixth.
“It was a frustrating end to the day because we had played such good matches in the round robin and were totally flat in the playoff match,” Hudson coach Dennis Saathoff said. “In our loss to Superior, we only had three more kills than we had hitting errors, and then we served poorly as well so we were our own worst enemy.”
The Raiders opened the BRC Tourney with round robin play where they lost to Chippewa Falls 17-25, 26-24, 6-15 before defeating River Falls 25-15, 25-21. They wrapped up round robin play with a 27-29, 25-16, 10-15 loss to Rice Lake before losing in the playoff round to Superior.
“Overall for the day we had some girls play fairly steady,” Saathoff said. “Jamie Lindstrom and Stephanie Little led the team in kills. Katrina Zenz led the team in blocks. Amber Saathoff led the team in service aces and assists. And Hannah Wirth led the defense in service receptions and digs.”
If the Raiders win Thursday at home against Superior and Saturday, Oct. 23 at Eau Claire North, they will advance to the sectional semifinal next Thursday, Oct. 28, at Eau Claire Memorial against an opponent to be determined. The sectional final is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at Wausau East.
