Prominent Hudson businessman Dick Mueller dies

Richard “Dick” Mueller, 82, died early Tuesday in Hudson.

Mueller and his family owned and operated True Value Hardware in Hudson from 1947 until the store closed in 2008. Dick Mueller moved the business from its Second Street location to become one of the first stores in the new Plaza 94 in 1975. The business which was begun in 1894 was among the oldest in Hudson. Mueller’s parents, Helen and George, purchased the store in 1947 and three generations of the family operated it.

In addition to running his business, Mueller was active in the community and played a prominent role in the establishment of the Hudson Chamber of Commerce. He was known as a staunch supporter of many successful community events over the years.

He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Christian Community Home which led to the development of Wintergreen and Pine Ridge Assisted Living and is credited, along with the late Fred Kramer, for helping arrange for the purchase and dedication of the land that is now Willow River State Park.

Mueller’s wife, Donna, who he married in 1949, died in 2009. He is survived by his sons Bruce, Scott, and daughters Annie, Kristen and Leslie. More information about Mueller will appear in next week’s Star-Observer along with a complete obituary.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by O’Connell Family Funeral Home. Details on services were not yet available.
