HSG gymnasts earn high marks

The Hudson School of Gymnastics girls’ teams competed in three meets in the month of December. All five levels will be competing in the Jan. 29-30 at the Wisconsin Dells invitational meet.

The Hudson School of Gymnastics girls’ teams competed in three meets in the month of December. On Dec. 4-5, the compulsory level 4, 5 and 6 gymnasts participated in the Wisconsin State Gymnastics meet in West Allis. The level 4 team participated in the Level 4 Minnesota State Invitational meet on Dec. 18-19. The Optional level 7 and 8 gymnasts began their season with the Hamline Spirit Holiday Invite meet on the same weekend in St. Paul.

Wisconsin State Meet competitors included level 4 gymnasts Ashley Hay and Paige Hillman, level 5 gymnasts Briana Cruz, Emily Denning, Karina Gilson, Anna Veenendall, and Madison Wisse, and level 6 gymnasts Jacqueline Balsiger, Kelsey Miller, and Madison Rhode.

Both Hay and Hillman earned scores placing them in the top ten all-around for their age groups, Hay earning an all-around score of 34.400 and Hillman with a 36.475.

Level 5 gymnast Wisse received a 35.550 all-around score, placing her in 11th place for her age group. Wisse also earned the state bars title in her age division with a score of 9.550.

On the level 6 team, Balsiger placed fifth with an all-around score of 33.750, while Rhode placed eighth in her age group with an all-around score of 32.000.

This was the first year the Hudson School of Gymnastics participated in the Minnesota Level 4 State Invitational meet. Eleven gymnasts participated including Amanda Hay, Ashley Hay, Ashley Peterson, Halle Peterson, Kaitlyn Zignego, Katherine Marquardt, Kayla Belany, Lane Burke, Lauren Hanson, Megan Michaels and Paige Hillman.

Burke and Peterson both earned 9.200 on vault, Hillman earned a 9.050 on beam and Ashley Hay placed first on floor with a 9.450. The Hudson level 4 team placed in the top ten out of 24 competing teams.

All five levels will be competing in the Jan. 29-30 at the Wisconsin Dells invitational meet.

The girls’ competitive compulsory and optional teams are coached by gym owners and world-class coaches Seaok An and her husband Hwichul Kim. Also coaching the girls’ teams are Megan Lund, Staci Solin, Ellen Clauss, and Tina Thompson.
