Ronald Thoennes, 60

Ronald Norman Thoennes, age 60, of Hudson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a very courageous battle with brain cancer, on Jan. 21, 2011.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1950, the son of Norman Andrew and Anna Marie (Riley) Thoennes in Parker’s Prairie, Minn., and was raised in Lakeland, Minn. Ron was a 1968 graduate of Stillwater High School, where he played on the baseball team. On Sept. 13, 1985, Ron’s life became complete when he married Lori Roloff and they had three children.

Ron will be remembered for his great generosity of his time and his loyalty to his friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, golf, the Minnesota sports teams, but his greatest love was being with family, relaxing at the lake. He will be missed but never forgotten by all whose lives he touched.

Ron was preceded in death by mother, Anna; brothers Larry and Danny; and son Christopher.

He will always remain in the hearts of his loving wife, Lori; son Nicholas (fiancée, Ashley) and daughter, Abby; father, Norman; sister, Pamela (Randy) Sloper; brothers Timothy (Anita) and Douglas; mother-in-law, Nancy Schell; sisters-in-law, Jean Conners, Colleen Matter, Mary Steinbeiser; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

There will be a memorial gathering for Ron from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, and a memorial service at 12 noon Thursday, Jan. 27, all at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 520 S. 11th St., 715-386-3725. Interment will follow the service at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. A continued celebration of Ron’s life will follow his interment at the Stillwater VFW, 5880 Omaha Ave. N. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
