A former long-time manager at Chicone’s Liquor Mart in Hudson has been charged with two counts of felony theft for allegedly pilfering cash from the till for nearly six years.
Nathan M. Dusek, 37, Knapp, posted a $2,000 signature bond Thursday (Feb. 17) on charges of theft in a business setting and theft by false representation.
The criminal complaint alleged between Feb. 17, 2005 and Nov. 14, 2010 Dusek as the store’s manager falsely recorded returns of large quantities of Miller Lite beer and took cash for them from store funds. He is accused of taking more than $10,000.
Dusek said he worked for Chicone’s since 1994 and became manager in 1997 or 1998. He told investigators he created false returns for 24 packs of the beer and took the amount in cash without recording it in the daily report, sometimes as much as $1,500 a week, according to the criminal complaint.
Dusek was scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing March 31. The maximum penalty for conviction of each felony charge is $25,000 fine and 10 years in prison.
