Young gymnasts shine at state meet in Rice Lake

The Hudson School of Gymnastics optional level girls’ teams competed in the state meet in Rice Lake March 26. It was a successful day for the both the level 7 and 8 teams.

The Hudson School of Gymnastics optional level girls’ teams competed in the state meet in Rice Lake March 26. It was a successful day for the both the level 7 and 8 teams. All of the girls placed on at least one event and the level 7 team took home the 10th place trophy.

Competing at level 7, Olivia Dunlap placed first in the all-around in her age group with a score of 36.875. She placed first on vault with a 9.425 and first on floor with a 9.175. She took second on bars with an 8.975 and second on beam with a 9.3.

Gabby Hughes placed sixth on beam in her age group with a 9.35 and 14th on floor with an 8.975. She achieved an all-around score of 35.5 which was her best for the season.

Staci Solin took third in the all-around in her age group with a 33.85. She also placed second on beam with an 8.8, third on bars with a 7.35, fourth on floor with an 8.775 and fifth on vault with an 8.925.

Competing at level 8, Kaitlyn Gilson tied for fifth on floor in her age group with a score of 9.2 and finished eighth on beam with a score of 9.1. She also achieved her highest all-around score of the season with a 35.5.

Olivia Koehler took eighth on beam in her age group with a 9.15 and achieved an all-around score of 34.0. Gabriela Cruz placed 10th on floor in her age group with a 9.0 and achieved an all-around score of 34.275. All three level 8 gymnasts qualified for the regional competition in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 17.

The girls’ competitive compulsory and optional teams are coached by gym owners and world-class coaches Seaok An and her husband Hwichul Kim. Also coaching the girls’ teams are Megan Lund, Staci Solin, Ellen Clauss and Tina Thompson.
