U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, will be hosting a small business panel at the UW-River Falls Hudson Center on Tuesday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m.
The panel will feature experts who will discuss resources available to small businesses. They will help guide business owners through accessing aid and taking advantage of such resources as tax credits, business initiatives, lending, procurement and more.
The event will include a panel discussion, a question and answer session with panelists, and an opportunity for business owners to talk individually with panelist about questions and concerns.
The guests will include Sunny Kessel of the U.S. Export Assistance Office in the U.S. Department of Commerce. Kessel will share ways the export office can help businesses begin to export.
The office provide help identifying markets, developing effective market-entry strategies, facilitating implementation of strategies and providing assistance in obtaining trade finance.
Kim Kindschi of the Small Business Development Center, and executive director of entrepreneurship and economic development at UW-Extension, will discuss grant opportunities available to small businesses.
She all will talk about ways UW-Extension can advocate for small businesses in securing funding, patents, starting up a business and utilizing the vast resources in the UW System.
Steve DeWald, director of UW-River Falls Small Business Development Center, will talk about entrepreneurship and how to put together a successful business plan.
Karen Brehmer, Alan Gregerson and Ann Makres, IRS regional stakeholder liaisons, will speak about the tax benefits available to small businesses.
Eric Ness from the Wisconsin office of the Small Business Administration will provide details on the administration’s lending to small and start-up businesses.
Attendees will also include representatives from the Community Bankers and the Wisconsin Credit Union League, who will answer questions regarding lending and the credit market.
In addition, Barbara Eckblad, director of lending for the Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative Corporation will be in attendance.
