Local gymnasts end season on high note
The Hudson School of Gymnastics Level 8 competitive team, comprised of Gabriela Cruz, Olivia Koehler and Kaitlyn Gilson, recently returned from the USA Gymnastics Region 4 Championship meet in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Hudson School of Gymnastics Level 8 competitive team, comprised of Gabriela Cruz, Olivia Koehler and Kaitlyn Gilson, recently returned from the USA Gymnastics Region 4 Championship meet in Des Moines, Iowa. Over 250 level 8 gymnasts from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Missouri achieved qualifying scores at the state level to compete in this event.
All three local gymnasts had a successful regional meet. Koehler achieved an all-around score of 32.525, Gilson medaled on uneven bars with a score of 9.25 and on floor exercise with a 9.20, and Cruz had her best meet of the season and placed eighth in the all-around with a score of 35.675. She took second place on bars with a score of 9.375 and also medaled on beam with a 9.05.
The April 18 regional meet marked the close of the competition season for all levels at Hudson Gymnastics, as level 8 gymnasts do not progress to Westerns or Nationals. All five Hudson teams saw great success during the 2010-11 competition season. The Hudson compulsory level 4-6 teams will begin their next competition season in September and the optional teams will begin competing in December.
The girls’ competitive compulsory and optional teams are coached by gym owners and world-class coaches Seaok An and her husband Hwichul Kim. Also coaching the girls’ teams are Megan Lund, Staci Solin, Ellen Clauss and Tina Thompson.
