The Memorial Day observance at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson drew a large crowd Monday despite the threat of rain. In fact, speaker Howard Nelson’s speech was interrupted by the sound of storm sirens at about 10:30 a.m.

The severe weather, however, appeared to be well north of Hudson, and after the sirens subsided, the ceremony continued. Sirens in Hudson sounded three times on Monday, but no severe weather threatened the immediate Hudson area. Sirens sound throughout the county whenever a storm warning is issued. It sometimes confuses citizens because the storm may be in other parts of the county and not always a threat to an area where sirens are sounded.
