Three Hudson Area Swim Association (HASA) swimmers qualified and participated at a National Zone meet Aug. 5-7 in Topeka, Kan.

The three, who swam for Team Minnesota, competed against the fastest swimmers from Arkansas, the Missouri Valley, North Dakota, Oklahoma, the Ozarks, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Shane Blinkman, 10, won six different events — the 50 meter breaststroke, 100 meter freestyle, 50 meter butterfly, 200 meter individual medley, 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter breaststroke. He won the High Point Trophy for the age 9-10 boys at the meet.

Cale Blinkman, 10, won the 50 meter backstroke, took third in the 100 meter backstroke and placed fifth in the 50 meter breaststroke. He finished ninth in total points for the age 9-10 boys.

Both of the 9-10 age group Minnesota relays team took first place as well. The 200 meter freestyle relay was anchored by Shane, and the 200 meter medley relay was led off by Cale and had Shane swimming the breaststroke portion.

Maria Blinkman, 12, finished 63rd in the 50 meter butterfly, 78th in the 100 meter freestyle and 92nd in the 50 meter freestyle at the National Zone meet.

HASA also had a fourth qualifier for this meet. Matt Baker, 12,  was to swim in the Open Water event, but due to safety concerns associated with the hot weather and warm water, the event was canceled.

Team Minnesota finished second overall out of nine teams that were present.

HASA is the feeder club for the Hudson High School teams, and trains at the Hudson Middle School. Registration for the fall season is Aug 30 from 5-7 p.m. at the middle school cafeteria.  For more information, go to www.hudsonswimteam.org.
