Art classes for adults scheduled

A series of three acrylic painting workshops, “Beginning/Intermediate Pottery on the Wheel,” “Multiples: Plaster Mold Design for Slip Casting and Press Molding,” “Weave a Bag or a Purse,” “Drawing,” and “Beginning Oil Painting” will be offered for adults this fall at The Phipps Center for the Arts.

Coming back to teach acrylic painting workshops is well-known instructor Bonnie Cutts. These workshops are “Essential Acrylic Techniques,” on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; “Big, Bold, and Beautiful: Paint Big with Acrylics,” on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and “Amazing Inkjet Options in Art,” on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The fee for each workshop is $96. All paints and some materials are provided by the instructor; participants should ask for a supplies list upon enrollment.

Two pottery classes will be offered for teens and adults. “Beginning/Intermediate Pottery on the Wheel” is scheduled for eight Mondays, Sept. 26 through Nov. 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a class fee of $207 (majority of materials included) and “Multiples: Plaster Mold Design for Slip Casting and Press Molding” will be held on eight Tuesdays, Sept. 27 through Nov. 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The fee for this class is $242, which includes specialized materials necessary for this sculptural process.

Also for teens and adults, The Phipps offers “Weave a Purse or Bag” with Judy Larson on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 2, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. The class fee is $96 and students are asked to bring three yards of pre-washed cotton fabric.

The drawing class will be offered on four Saturdays, Nov. 5 through Dec. 3 (no class Nov. 26), from 9:30 a.m. to noon, with a class fee of $119 (all materials included). “Beginning Oil Painting” will be offered on the same dates, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., with a class fee of $139 (majority of materials included).
