The annual Spirit of the St. Croix Art Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24-25 in Hudson and offers plenty of activities for those visiting downtown.

The event is sponsored by the Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau, in partnership with The Phipps Center for the Arts. Spirit of the St. Croix combines art with the history and beauty of the St. Croix River.

The event is sort of a spinoff of the old Autumn Taste Walk and the 2008 Professional Walleye Trail that held its championship round in Hudson a couple of years back.

This year's event will feature plenty of fun and excitement by featuring a whole list of activities in Lakefront Park. Highlighting the two days are displays by more than 70 juried artists in Lakefront Park. In addition to the artists will be vendor booths, acoustical music (both on stage and in the vendor area) and, of course, a great variety of food.

Along with great entertainment, food, music and artistic talent, downtown businesses will again be displaying a parade of scarecrows outside their shops with apple treats inside for tasting.

On Saturday the fest is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hats off to the Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau, The Phipps Center for the Arts and all the participating businesses and helpers involved with Spirit of the St. Croix Days. The sponsors are offering plenty of activities for all of us.

To make the weekend successful, of course, requires our participation. The Spirit of the St. Croix Days offers a great opportunity to end the summer with one last chance for a communitywide celebration.
