The Raider boys’ soccer team opened the WIAA playoffs this week fresh of a three-game winning streak.

The Raiders last two victories came by identical 2-0 scores over Eau Claire North and Chippewa Falls last week. Both victories avenged losses to the same teams earlier this season and gave the Raiders a final regular season record of 5-7-0 in Big Rivers Conference play, 7-11-0 overall.

Hudson earned the No. 8 seed in the 16-team regional and opened the postseason Tuesday against No. 9 Marshfield (6-10-2).

(Post-press time note: The Raiders defeated Marshfield by a score of 2-0 to advance. They will face Eau Claire Memorial on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 p.m. in Eau Claire.)

Last Tuesday the Raiders went on the road and shut out Eau Claire North, 2-0, in Eau Claire.

Henry Brose scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute and the score remained 1-0 until Ben Klundt added an insurance goal, with an assist from Alex Schnobrich, with less than two minutes remaining.

Goalkeeper Mitch Rosiejka made five saves to earn the shutout as Hudson outshot the Huskies 12-9. Eau Claire North defeated the Raiders, 1-0, back on Sept. 8 in Hudson.

Thursday the Raiders returned home to face Chippewa Falls looking to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Cardinals earlier this season. Seth Blum and Rocky Harmon had a goal apiece and Rosiejka and Major Klein combined for six saves as the Raiders posted their second straight 2-0 shutout victory.

Blum’s goal came in the 34th minute off a free kick while Harmon added an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.

Following this week’s regional play, the WIAA playoffs continue with sectional semifinals Thursday, Oct. 20 and finals Saturday, Oct. 22. The WIAA Boys State Soccer Championships will be held Oct. 27-29 at Uihlein Park in Milwaukee.
